FAQ

Below are some common questions about our studio or Pilates in general. If you have additional questions, please do not hesitate to contact the studio via email or phone.

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasizes proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance. Pilates moves require you to engage virtually your whole body. At times, you may try to strengthen one muscle while stretching another. The moves take lots of concentration and the discipline emphasizes correct form instead of going for the burn. Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920s.

Why should I do Pilates?

In general, Pilates is great to help individuals feel and look better. However,  Pilates is also wonderful for addressing specific needs such as;

  • recovering from an injury

  • increasing athletic performance

  • improving balance and strength

  • managing chronic pain

  • pre- and post-natal care

  • addressing major and minor scoliosis

  • improving posture

  • post physical therapy rehab

Do you offer group classes?

We offer small group mat and equipment classes. Schedule is limited. Please contact studio for schedule and enrollment.

What if I’ve never done Pilates before?

Then this is perfect for you. Everything is tailored to your individual needs, history and goals.

What if I am recovering from a surgery or an injury?

Pilates is an excellent tool to rehabilitate after a surgery or injury, especially for joint replacement surgery (knees and hips). I can tailor your program to bring stability to the muscles around your injury getting you back out doing the activities you love. You must have clearance from your Doctor and/or Physical Therapist to exercise.

What is Scolio-Pilates?

Scolio-Pilates® is a pilates-based exercise program for scoliosis. The program is designed to elongate the spine towards neutral with strengthening techniques to support the spine in its new alignment. I am an Authorized Scolio-Pilates Instructor.

What should I wear?

Please wear body-hugging options for Pilates classes, this way, the instructor can see your movements better and your clothes don't get caught in springs or other equipment. As for footwear, you can either be barefoot or wear socks for your session.
